maureen oliver painting of a young woman's head

Seventeen - oil on canvas, 2004 © Maureen Oliver

The painting depicts that time between childhood and maturity. At seventeen this girl is still vulnerable yet becoming aware of her sexual identity. - hence the childlike ribbon in the hair contrasts with the sensuous mouth and the look of longing in her eyes. This painting is the book cover image for the semi-autobiographical novel Molly Cullen, Blessings on the Wild Child available from Description: Portrait of the head of a young woman with black hair with a green bow in it. She has intense eyes, shaded in blue.
